What is a Chilsonator?

A chilsonator, which also goes by the name of a dry granulation roll compactor, is an important piece of equipment in the pharmaceutical industry. Its purpose is to process fine powders into densified sheets without the need for binders or water. These sheets can then be further granulated in order to obtain the desired particle size for distribution.

When properly operating, the chilsonator employs mechanical pressure that is exerted by two counter-rotating rolls. The fine powders are fed between these rolls. As the volume decreases in the region of maximum pressure, then the material is compacted into a solid sheet or is compact. The end result of this process is a densified sheet that can be further processed in order to create uniform granules.
