In general, hammer mills work on the idea that most materials will crush, shatter, or pulverize upon impact. It is here where the material is struck by ganged hammers attached to a shaft that rotates at high speed inside the mill’s grinding chamber. The use of perforated metal screens and/or bar grates covering the discharge opening of the mill keep the coarse material for further grinding. All while allowing properly sized materials to pass through. And so on until the process is complete.
